Iris M. Havener, 86, of Decatur, IL passed away on Monday (March 7, 2011) in her home with family around her after a long wonderful life.

A service to celebrate Iris’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (March 12, 2011) at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Havener Family WWII Memorial Fund or to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. Iris was born on April 22, 1924 in Charleston, IL, the daughter of Wilbert Paul and Sarah Ellen (Crail) Anderson. She was a graduate of Decatur High School. She married George R. “Russ” Havener on January 3, 1943. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2001. Russ and Iris were co-owners of Soy City Marine. She worked at Hi Flyer Kite Factory, SS Kresgees, she was a cook for ARA at Eldorado, Thomas Jefferson, Baum, Johns Hill and McArthur High School. She was a Cub Scout den leader at Muffley School, President of the PTA, guardian treasurer of Bethel 49 International Order of Job’s Daughters, Secretary, Treasurer and Program Chairman of the Ski Klub of Ill. She was a member of the Ansar Shrine Ansarettes, American Legion Auxiliary and the Hillbilly Clan #28.

She enjoyed spending time with family, watching her Chicago Cubbies, watching Illini basketball, watching golf, camping and fishing. She spent countless hours volunteering with her husband at Shrine events. They were married 58 ½ wonderful years when he passed away ten years ago.

Left behind with her wonderful memories are her daughter: Becky Troxell; son: Jeff (Susie) Havener both of Decatur, IL; brother: Leo Anderson of Sauk Village, IL; eight grandchildren: Jeromy Havener of Harristown, IL, Dawn (Jason) Oakleaf of Harristown, IL, Tiffany (Chad) Childers of Blue Mound, IL, Charity (Chris) Miller of Mt. Zion, IL, Amber (Boone) Havener of Decatur, IL, Sarah (Jason) Jones of Decatur, IL, Megan Troxell of Decatur, IL, Josh Troxell of Sigonella, Sicily; eleven great grandchildren; daughter-in-law and son-in-law: Bill and Peggy Moffett; sister-in-law: Mary Lou Havener; many nieces and nephews also survive.

Iris was reunited in Heaven with her loving husband, parents, step-father: Oliver Miller, son: David Havener, step-sisters: Betty Yelton and Phyliss Boland.

The family would like to thank DMH Hospice team, her friend and cardiologist: Manohar Kola, MD, Dr. Eloy and Dr. Tim Miller and staff. We appreciate your love, talent and care of mom through her many illnesses. Mom was a loving, strong and caring person who we will all love and miss deeply
